What is Passages?
Passages is an opportunity for students to share their learning with members of the community and their parents. Students give a 10 to 15 minute verbal presentation of what they've learned through the course of the year, their goals for the future, and what they are doing to achieve those goals. Eighth grade students present in front of a group of adult members of their local community. Seventh grade students present in front of their parents as a way to practice presentation skills for their 8th grade year. Community members, parents, and crew leaders give them specific feedback about their learning so that students can revise and improve their educational goals as they move to the next grade level.

Why do we do Passages?
One of the core principles of Expeditionary Learning is Student Engaged Assessment. In other words, we want our students to self-reflect on their own learning. By going through the process of creating a Passages presentation, students will develop a clearer understanding of their strengths and weaknesses through presenting to an authentic audience of community members.
